I think that movies and videos provide a great channel for communicating concepts in class. I have found in my personal experience that I learn best when relating class concepts to an example. We do discuss many examples verbally during lecture but for visual learners like myself, a video example is more memorable. There is also the entertainment factor of videos that break up the lecture and can re-energize students, especially during the longer class periods over the summer semesters. I think that the videos shown in class today during the case presentations of WD-40 and Peugeot were very effective and are a testament to the value of learning through videos.
Recently I found Knowledge at Wharton channel at youtube.com they have very nice strategic analysis of Issues such as Tata's acquisition, Oil price hike and other relevant issues by professors at Wharton school of business. http://youtube.com/profile?user=knowledgeatwharton
Similarly there is Harvard Businees channel they have videos on Five force analysis by Michel porter http://youtube.com/user/HBSPublishing
For Insead videos: http://youtube.com/user/inseadofficial
I think it will be helpful to our class to keep learning even after course is over.
Videos are a good way to reinforce what you have learned from lecture. Videos are also a way to break up the lecture into smaller segments thus keeping the attention of the students. The videos have relevance to the material being taught and give visual examples of the concepts in class.
I could not agree more with the previous comments, its one thing to study and memorize information by to see it being applied so worth so much more. I also believe that the thing you learn visually will stick with you longer.
Fully agree! Videos are great for breaking up monotony while showing how concepts are applied in real life. Sometimes various concepts can seem very abstract, but videos bring them to life. Keep on showing them!!!
Totally agreed !! Videos made long lectures pretty interesting and novel. Thanks to Prof Faraci and Maurizio for finding effective videos based on our study material...Italian culture was a nasty one....lol
Theories explained through practical scenarios are better understood. Also, there are many websites explaining strategic issues useful for implementation in business. You can visit : http://www.ssrn.com/
I think movies and videos are very helpful to learn concepts. They provide examples and illustrate concepts taught in class. Providing a visual helps many people to learn better and remember stuff better. Sometimes just reading a textbook can be hard to relate to the real world.
Coming from a background of teaching, differentiated instruction is crucial to keeping students attention. I feel that these videos in class are not only entertaining, they really do give visual learners like myself, a chance to foster their absorption of knowledge better. Movies are good. I learn a lot from television. A lot of my knowledge actually comes from T.V. As much as people don't like to admit it, most of their knowledge comes directly from TV. I think the videos are great and this class benefits greatly from them. They reinforce the idea/lesson.
I LOVVVVVEEEE watching movies....I am a pretty visual person so movies help me to understand more easily....Your movies have definitely reinforced much of what I have learned in your class...Thanks for making class interesting.
I totally agree with all the people uptairs. Movies and Videos are more helpful in explaining the concepts. And I hope video games can become one another method to education someday.
Watching movies and videos in class definitely helps in the learning process. It keeps students' attention and is also another way to reinforce the material. Talking about the video afterwards can also help students learn.

To be cliché: "a picture is worth a thousand words...” therefore a moving picture (video) must be worth a million! I enjoy using videos and movies because they can summarize an idea. Watching a video can also provide an example of an issue, which may be easier to comprehend for some people.
To mirror what Michael said, it can provide a quick mental break for students and be memorable, which is better for the students' overall learning.
