From the Instructor - An important clarification about the final grade
There was a mistake in the Syllabus that affected my initial communication about the distribution of the points among the different activities (individual + group activities). In order to fit the table of page 3 of the Syllabus (90-100 points = A; 85-89 points = B+; 80-84 points = B...etc), NOW the mid-term and the final exams will account EACH for 40% of the final score and not for 20% as accidentally I wrote in the Syllabus and I continueed to repeat in class. Indeed, if I had to follow the instructions in the Syllabus, the maximum score would be 80 points, that is far away from the range 90-100 points that I've always considered the proper range to get an A attending my classes. I apologize for such inconvenience. Over the last past years, I've been allocating the grade by the following scheme: 20% class participation, 25% case presentations in class, 25% working projects, 40% final exam (one-shot-final exam!). On this Summer A, 2008 I made a little adjustment. First, I'm considering class participation only for 10%. Second, I splitted the exam in two exams-sessions (mid-term from Chapts 1 to 5 and final from Chapts 6 to 9) in order to facilitate the students learning process. Obviously, I couldn't split also the grade without re-aligning the table of page 3 of the Syllabus! I hope this important clarification will help you in pre-calculating your expected grade. Have a nice weekend and take care!

I'm confused. This is what is on the syllabus and it adds up to 100%. Is it a point system or percent?
Course Requirements:
The course credit will be allocated as follows:
Participation: 10%
Case presentation: 25%
Group project: 25%
Midterm Exam: 20%
Final Exam: 20%

I'm also confused. Professor Faraci's past grading scheme was: "20% class participation, 25% case presentations in class, 25% working projects, 40% final exam (one-shot-final exam!)" That adds up to 110%. This year if each exam is worth 40% and the participation is 10%, and the presentation and project are 25% each, that adds up to 140%?! That can't be right.
I am also confused Professor Faraci. I am not sure if we are understanding you correctly. Bart is correct in the allocation and addition of points in the class. If someone could clarify BEFORE Monday that would be great.

I'm sorry, but let's take this example, because this is the way I'm going to do the evaluations.
If you got 50 + 50 points in both the two exams (it's impossible because the maximum was 44 on the midterm), your class participation scored 100 points (it could be possible), and both your projects have been evaluated 100 points (it could be possible, as well), it means that
100 points * 0,40 = 40
100 points * 0,10 = 10
100 points * 0,25 = 25
100 points * 0,25 = 25
Total 100 points (that's the maxim) are equivalent A
Points falling between 100 and 90 will be graded A; between 85 and 89 B+ and so on, according to what I wrote in the Syllabus.
The way I accidentally mentioned in the Syllabus couldn't work, because
the maximum was 80.
I hope this clarification works for you. Again, I apologize for the inconvenience.
Take care!
